Physical therapy in Winooski, Vermont

Physical therapy for people who ride, run and ski

Switchback is a clinic of three physical therapists on Weaver Street. We start by watching how you move, then plan care around your sport and your season.

Two ways to start

A movement screen or a full evaluation

Not every visit starts with pain. Pick the one that matches why you are calling, and we will tell you if the other one makes more sense.

Its own service

Bike fit and movement screen

A physical therapist looks at you first, on the floor, and then on your bike on a trainer. Saddle, cleats, bars and the way your hips, knees and back move all get looked at together, and you leave with a written list.

  • Bring your bike, shoes and the shorts you ride in

  • A stand-alone visit, with no plan of care attached

  • Road, gravel and mountain bikes

What we see

Four ways we work with riders, runners and skiers

Most people arrive with a sport and a date in mind. We plan backward from it.

Three physical therapists, and you see one of them

Every visit is with a physical therapist. Each of us holds a Vermont license; the lines are in the footer.

A first visit

How a visit works

  1. 01

Step 1: Tell us your sport and your date

Where you ride, run or ski, how often, and the event or the first snow you are aiming at.

  2. 02

Step 2: We watch you move

Strength, balance, landing and control, tested the way your sport asks for them.

  3. 03

Step 3: You leave with a plan

A few exercises, a schedule and what we will look at next time. The front desk tells you how it is paid for before you come in.

Patients say

What it is like to come in

“They watched me pedal on a trainer before they said a word about my knee. Then they gave me a short list I could actually do.”

Chrissy B.Commuter and gravel rider

“I expected a lecture about my running. It was a treadmill, a phone camera and a plan built around my training week.”

Josh D.Trail runner

“Laila planned backward from the day I wanted to be on snow, and explained why each exercise was there.”

Scott M.Skier

Questions people ask first

Do I need a referral?

In Vermont you can start without a referral. Your plan may still ask for one. Call us with your plan card and we will check before you book.

Is a movement screen the same as an evaluation?

No. A screen is a shorter look at how you move, with a written list at the end. An evaluation is a physical therapist's full exam and the start of a plan of care. We help you pick.

Does my plan cover this, and do you take Medicare?

We bill many kinds of plans for evaluations and treatment visits, including most commercial plans, Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation and auto injury coverage. Your plan decides what it pays.

Will it hurt?

We work within what you can tolerate. Some movements and exercises can be uncomfortable. Tell us, and we change what we are doing.
